Updates

A list of new features, improvements and other changes to TRACKMENTO, along with problems we currently know about. We update it whenever we fix or release something.

Recent changes

October 15, 2026

When the grid is empty, “Start from a theme” now appears above it. Press one such as “9 tracks that made me” to fill in the title and the grid size. Press “Later” to hide it on this device.

October 13, 2026

On a share page, tapping the cover of a track from YouTube, Niconico, SoundCloud or Spotify now opens that site's player. YouTube and SoundCloud usually start playing right away; for Niconico and Spotify, press play in the player. This also works on shares made before (except SoundCloud tracks added with a short “on.soundcloud.com” URL).
On a share page, tapping the cover of a Bandcamp track now opens Bandcamp's player for that track; press play in the player to listen. This works for Bandcamp tracks you add from now on. For tracks added earlier, paste the URL again.
On a share page, tapping the cover of a track that is on Apple Music now plays a preview of about 30 seconds. The previews come from iTunes, and only the track you tapped plays.

When “Row labels” are used and track names are placed below, the space between the groups has been tightened. Within a group, a track name is no longer broken in the middle as long as it fits on one line.

“Find shared grids” now has a “Picked by only one person” list: up to 20 tracks that appear in only one person's grid listed in the last 30 days, starting with artists no one else picked. Tap one to find the grid that contains it.
Added “Row labels” below “Theme”. You can write up to 12 characters per row, and in the exported image the labels appear to the left of the grid, one per row, with more space between rows. Track names are grouped under each label, to the right of its covers (below them in square or tall images), and numbering starts at 01 for each label. Choosing “My music history” fills in junior high, high school, adult and now.
“Find shared grids” now has a “Most-picked tracks” list: up to 20 tracks that appear in the most grids listed in the last 30 days. Tap one to find the grids that contain it.
Added “My music history (junior high, high school, adult, now)” to “Theme”. It sets the grid to 5 × 4 so you can fill one row of 5 tracks per period, top to bottom.

October 1, 2026

Fixed layouts sometimes disappearing from the “Layout” menu when TRACKMENTO was open in two tabs. Missing layouts come back to the menu the next time you open it (as long as they are still stored on your device).
In the Japanese text of the app and its pages, the spaces between Latin letters or numbers and Japanese characters have been removed.

When opened inside the TikTok app, TRACKMENTO now also suggests reopening it in your browser and shows “Copy URL”.

The number badges in the exported image are now about twice as large.
On narrow phones, the top bar (logo, “?” and language switch) no longer wraps onto two lines.
Added the article “Making your ‘9 tracks that made me’ look its best” (in Japanese) to Articles.
Added “Why I made TRACKMENTO”, a note from the maker (in Japanese), to Articles.
Added the article “Where to search? What each source is good at” (in Japanese) to Articles.
For Niconico videos with no uploader name (for example, when the uploader has left), the creator's name is now filled in from otoDB when the video is registered there (otherwise VocaDB is checked as before). This works both for single URLs and for whole mylists.
Added the article “Turning a whole playlist into a grid” (in Japanese) to Articles.
Added an “Articles” page (in Japanese). The first article explains how to bring back the thumbnails of deleted Niconico videos from otoDB. Open it from the links at the bottom of the editor and of each page.
Added a “Terms of use” page. You can open it from the links at the bottom of the editor and of each page.
In the “A word about server bills” box, the PayPal link is now an animated banner in the style of old web ads.
Added help balloons: press “?” at the top right, then point at a part (or touch it on a phone) to see what it does. “Watch the how-to video” takes you to a video of that feature.
Added “How-to videos” to the links at the bottom of the editor.

Added a “How-to videos” page. Press a question to play a few-second video of that feature (a video loads only when you open it).
Removed the album text link from the “A word about server bills” box, since the button next to it goes to the same place.
“Cell N has the same track” now appears on its own line in bold with a small speech-bubble icon, so it stands out.
Fixed the yellow frame of a selected tile overlapping its track-name strip and number.
On narrow phones, three-column grids now show the × and number again. Those show on smaller tiles than before, and the track-name strip appears only when a tile is tall enough.
Fixed thumbnails in “Blurred backdrop” tiles sitting low instead of centered on screen (exported images were already correct).
The buttons after sharing now have small icons, and “Copy URL”, “Share on social” and “Open share page” are separated from “Save image” by a line.
On phones, “Copy URL”, “Share on social”, “Open share page” and “Save image” after sharing are now lined up in two even columns.
Exported images now leave out empty rows and columns at the bottom and right edges (they used to leave a gap below and spread the track list too far apart). The default background image pattern is also fainter.
Fixed the search box on everyone’s grids having no border and seeming to disappear.
On Android with TRACKMENTO added to the home screen, tapping “everyone’s grids” or “Open share page” in the browser could jump into the app. These now open in the same tab.
The “A word about server bills” box and the box shown after you share are now a short note from me, the maker. You can choose your own price for the album.
You can now support the server bills without buying music: a PayPal link is in the “A word about server bills” box and in the box shown after you share.
The “A word about server bills” box and the box shown after you share tracks now show a bar of how much of this month's server bills is covered by support.
You can now take a grid you shared off “everyone’s grids” or delete the share yourself. It works from the same device and browser you shared from, in the result window, on the share page, or with the × button in the everyone’s grids list. Shares made before this change are not covered.

Tiles whose thumbnail could not be loaded now say “Load failed” (“Failed” on small tiles). Before, they looked the same as empty tiles.
Made the “Gap” and color slider thumbs easier to grab on phones; a finger slightly off the thumb now grabs it.
Shortened the pause after moving “Gap” and similar options when the track list is beside the grid. On phones with a large grid it could take a few seconds.
On phones, the track list of a large grid sometimes ran together like a paragraph. The image is now made a little larger when that keeps the list in neat columns, so it looks more like one made on a PC.
Fixed the grid scroll bar on phones flickering on and off after switching layouts.
Reviewed the English text: “song” is now “track” throughout, several option names are clearer (“Image fit,” “Background type,” “Freeform,” “Black text”), and spelling now follows US English.
Added a short word from TRACKMENTO at the top of the How to use page.
Reworded the screen. “Cover” is now “thumbnail,” the track list options are “Beside the grid,” “Over the cells” and “Hidden,” and the background and image options have shorter names.
Renamed the output options to match each other: “Ratio” is now “Image frame,” “Cell shape” is “Cell frame,” “How thumbnails fit” is “Thumbnail fill” (“Crop,” “Blurred backdrop”), and “Background color” is “Background” (“Choose a color,” “Match the covers,” “Complement the covers”). Ratios are written like “Wide 16:9.”
“Image frame,” “Cell frame” and “Thumbnail fill” in the output options can now be folded under the “Frames and thumbnails” triangle (the current settings still show below it). Fixed the cell editor appearing far down the page on phones after closing “Enlarge.” When you restore the size and tracks come back, you're now told so.
The output options are now grouped into three boxes, “Cells,” “Text,” and “Background and spacing,” and the detailed background color settings have a box of their own.
“Fit” under “Image” now enlarges the image to the edges without changing its proportions, and fills the rest with the color of the image's edges (matching the shape of the exported image).
Under “Image”, you can now choose “Fit” or “Tile” (S, M, L), with a preview of the chosen image. “Transparent” now lets you pick “Black text” or “White text” (the preview turns dark for white text).
With the same tracks, reordering no longer changes how the track list in the exported image is laid out (table or packed text, image size, text size). Using “Sort by color” could change it completely before.
“Match the covers” and “Contrast the covers” now show the colors taken from your covers as squares you can pick from. Choosing “Image” first lays a pattern of the TRACKMENTO mark (switch to any image with “Choose an image…”).
Fixed opening a grid from a share URL sometimes overwriting the grid you had open. It now always opens as a new layout (if you're at the layout limit, it tells you instead). The theme list now marks your current title, and switching gradient options is lighter.
The lists for “Layout” and “Theme” now open in a window that matches the site (in the middle of the screen on phones).
Added “Gradient” under “Background color”. Take the colors from your covers, or pick 2 to 4 yourself. “Another pattern” changes only the pattern and keeps the colors.
On computers (and in “Desktop view” on phones), you can now drag a window by its title bar to move it anywhere. The position is remembered on that screen, and “Reset windows” in the top bar puts them back.
The result window is now always shown. “Refresh” makes a preview of the exported image, and you can use “Share these tracks” and “Copy track names” from the same window. If nothing changed, the preview appears right away without being made again. The buttons below the grid are now “Find a track” and “Preview”.
Images uploaded from your device (for manual entries and backgrounds) are now kept for 90 days instead of 30. Shares are still kept for 30 days.
Changing settings such as “Gap” no longer freezes the screen for a moment (about 1 second → 0.1 seconds with 49 cells). Also fixed a 3×3 grid that could still flash briefly on opening.
Added “Preview” below the grid. Before sharing, you can make the exported image on your device (including the track list and background) and check it. It only shows the image; nothing is shared.
Background images are now laid more faintly the busier they are, and the color underneath leans away from the text color so track names stay readable. The grid preview in the editor now shows the background image too.
Radio buttons in the output options now sit side by side as far as the width allows, and wrap into rows of even length. Buttons in the palette window are smaller, renamed to “Make from color codes” and “Choose a file…”.
Fixed a 3×3 grid flashing briefly before your saved grid appeared on opening. On phones, scrolling with a finger near the “Gap” slider no longer gets stuck.
Added “Image” under “Background color”. Choose any image on your device with “Choose an image…” and it becomes the background of the exported image, laid at half strength so the track names stay readable.
On phones, when you select a cell and the “Selected cell” panel below the grid is off screen, the page now scrolls just enough to show the top of the panel.
Numbers in the exported image, on the share page and in “Copy track names” now count only cells with a track, starting from 1. The track list in the image no longer has rows that are just the number of an empty cell.
Buttons other than “Find a track” and “Share these tracks” (such as “Save layout”, “Sort by color” and “Choose an image from this device…”) are now smaller, and “Remove all tracks” sits apart below a divider.
Added small “Undo” and “Redo” buttons below the grid. Even on phones without a keyboard, you can go back up to 30 steps and redo what you undid.
Under “Background color” you can now choose how the background is set: “Choose a color”, “Match the covers”, “Contrast the covers” or “Transparent”. Cover colors are taken again when the grid changes, and “Another color” switches to a different one. With “Transparent”, the shared image gets a white background and “Save image” gives you a PNG with a transparent background.
In shared images, empty cells are no longer filled with gray; they show the background color.

September 24, 2026

On phones, the scroll bars beside the grid and in the “Find a track” sheet now have up and down arrow buttons. Tap to scroll a little; hold to keep scrolling. On dark palettes such as “Night”, the arrows (on computers too) are now light so they are easier to see.
On computers, buttons, headings and other controls now use a slightly larger pixel font. Nothing changes on phones.
On computers, the “Candidates” window no longer stretches down to match the settings column; it now ends where the grid ends.
On phones, a “Desktop view” link now sits at the bottom right of the page, so you can switch to the computer layout even when using TRACKMENTO from your home screen. “Mobile view” switches back.
In the track list on shared images, text could come out smaller than needed when some track names had been shortened by “Trim needless title text”. This is fixed. Characters the font doesn’t have (some symbols, Thai, Hangul and so on) are now left out of the image on every device.
Buttons, headings and other controls now use a different pixel font (M+ 12), so Latin letters line up evenly at the top. On computers they are a size smaller than before.
On Android, after adding TRACKMENTO to your home screen, you can send it URLs from other apps’ “Share” menu (not available on iPhone). If you had already installed it as an app, uninstall and reinstall it to see it in the list.
Added “Sort by color”, which orders the covers by their main color, from red to purple. You can undo it.
Added “Theme” below the title. Picking an example fills in the title (“9 tracks that made me” also sets the grid to 3 × 3). Adding a track that is already in the grid now tells you so.
The first screen of “Find shared grids” now has a “Different themes” list: the eight newest grids built around something other than “songs that make me”. Themes that differ only in wording are shown once.
You can paste bilibili URLs again. Only videos listed on otoDB (otomad and the like) or VocaDB (Vocaloid and the like) come in, with their titles and thumbnails. Since we never contact bilibili itself, unlisted videos and short URLs (b23.tv) do not work.
“Margin” is now a choice of “Normal”, “Wide” or “Extra wide” instead of a slider, because moving the slider often left the image unchanged. The previous look is the same as “Normal”.
The pixel font used on the buttons now also covers the other controls (headings, checkboxes, radio buttons and so on). In “Ratio”, the options are now called “16:9 wide” and “9:16 tall” and sit in two columns.
When you paste a Spotify URL, the artist name is now filled in from an iTunes track with the same title. If more than one artist has that title, you can pick one with a button. If none is found, add it yourself as before.

September 23, 2026

The example in the “Title” field now changes each time you open the page (“Songs for rainy days”, “Our school festival setlist” and more). The How to use page also has a new “Other ways to use it” section. Any theme is fine, so arrange tracks from whatever angle you like.
You can now keep up to 10 layouts. Switch between them with the “Layout” menu above the grid, and add one with “New layout”. When you open a share URL and your current layout already has tracks, it opens as a new layout instead of replacing it.
You can now add tracks all at once from a table of artist and track names (“From a list of track names” under Search, up to 20 rows at a time). You can also paste from a spreadsheet such as Excel. In the other direction, “Copy track names” copies the layout as text in the form “1. Artist - Track”.
You can now rearrange with the keyboard. Press Tab to reach the grid and move between cells with the arrow keys. Return or Space selects a cell, and Option (Alt) + an arrow key swaps the track with the neighboring cell.
The image on a share page now has alt text with its title and the first 10 track names, so screen reader users, or anyone whose image fails to load, can tell what the grid contains.
You can now undo removing, swapping and moving tracks one step at a time with Ctrl+Z (⌘Z on a Mac), up to 30 steps. Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes. On a phone, press “Undo” in the message that appears after each change.
The confirmation and palette windows now close with Esc. In the confirmation window, “Cancel” has a thick outline and can be pressed with Return. The “columns × rows” fields now have small up and down arrows; hold one down to keep counting.
We reviewed the wording on screen. In Japanese, “曲” is now “トラック” everywhere, “Clear all cells” is now “Remove all tracks”, and buttons that open a file picker now end with “…”.
Tapping “TRACKMENTO” at the top left of a share page now takes you back to the editor.

September 22, 2026

Slider and scrollbar thumbs are redrawn, so on phones their outlines no longer shift and their grip lines keep an even thickness. The corner where the two scrollbars meet is now plain, without diagonal lines.
Share pages now have a “Report inappropriate content” link at the bottom. If a note or image is a problem, let us know with the share ID.
When you select a cell, you can now write a “Note” for that track (why you picked it, for example; up to 200 characters and 3 lines). Notes appear in the track list on the share page, not in the exported image.
In a single-column grid, a track title that wrapped onto two lines could overlap the next track. Fixed, and there is a little more space between tracks.
Search source, ratio, cell shape, thumbnail fit and track list are now radio buttons where you pick one. You now search one source at a time.
Fixed a cell sometimes staying empty after adding a track from search results or a URL, even though the message said the track was added.
Fixed otoDB thumbnails sometimes missing from the image when using “Share track” on some devices.

September 21, 2026

“Blur to fill” now works with square cells too, so video thumbnails go in without their sides cut off. The per-cell setting is now called “How this thumbnail fits”.
“Find the original post” now also checks otoDB. If the video belongs to a work registered on otoDB, the work’s creator appears as an artist name suggestion, even for reuploads.
When you add a reposted YouTube video whose description names the original, the original uploader now appears as an artist name suggestion when you select the cell. “Find the original post” also looks for older posts with the same title on niconico.
Moved “Clear all cells” below the notes, away from the other buttons, so it is harder to hit by accident.
You can now set the cell shape to “Wide 16:9”, so YouTube and niconico thumbnails are no longer cut off at the sides. When square covers are mixed in, “How thumbnails fit” lets you choose, and you can also change it for a single cell.
Titles now leave out parts that are not the song name, such as “【東方Vocal】” or “- Topic”. Covers come out larger in grids with many tracks. You can turn it off with “Trim needless title text” in the output options, and “Shorten all titles” rewrites the stored titles.
“Output size” now shows the size of the image you actually get. It used to show a larger number that did not match the saved image.
Fixed the track list running together like a paragraph when there were many tracks. Each track now sits on its own line.
Tracks found on VocaDB are now remembered for two weeks. Once someone has looked a track up, it appears right away next time.
When otoDB is temporarily unavailable, we now retry once automatically, so otoDB results are less likely to be missing.

September 20, 2026

The page is now lighter to load. Opening it for the first time downloads about a quarter of what it used to.
The fonts used in the shared image are now fetched while you arrange your tracks. On a slow connection, there is less waiting after you press “Share tracks”, and the image is less likely to fail.
A YouTube playlist can now be loaded all at once by pasting a single URL (up to 500 tracks).
When you add a track by hand, you can now give it a link URL as well, so the track name on the shared page links to that page.
We reviewed which URLs we support so that we follow each service's terms. bilibili is no longer supported, and SoundCloud sets and Spotify playlists can no longer be loaded all at once (a URL for a single track still works). Spotify now gives only the title and the cover, so please add the artist name yourself.
The source names at the bottom of the page now link to each source's site (iTunes, MusicBrainz, otoDB, VocaDB).
The “From a URL” box now grows with the URLs you paste (up to eight lines), so you can see them all.
When the track list flows like a paragraph, the last one or two letters of a name no longer spill onto the next line.
For single-row grids (like 32×1), the track list now appears below the row as a one-line-per-track table.
In “Enlarge”, you can now pinch (or Ctrl + scroll on a computer) to resize the cells. The size is remembered for each grid shape.
For single-column grids (like 1×32), track names now sit beside each cover, one per line, with artists aligned to the right. In wide ratios such as 16:9, the list becomes a one-line-per-track table.
Fixed two things in “Enlarge”: a gap that appeared to the right of the grid, and cells growing too large in tall grids such as 1×32.
Changing the grid size, margins and similar settings no longer makes the page stutter.
“Enlarge” now shows bigger cells for grids with few rows and many columns.

September 19, 2026

Added a contact form. You can send questions, bug reports, requests and requests to delete shared data from the form on the “About & contact” page.
Palettes can now be saved to a file and loaded from one (“Save” and “Load from a file” in the palette window).
With the ratio set to “none” and track names beside each row, the title now sits above the track list instead of at the top left.
The “M” in the logo was easy to mistake for an “H”, so its shape has been changed. The line under the logo has a slightly new look too.
When the track list sits beside the grid, its line spacing is now adjusted so the list ends level with the bottom of the covers.
On slow connections, sharing could be cut off just before the upload finished. It now waits longer.
If the new address (trackmento.com) can’t be reached on your network, such as some Wi-Fi connections, you can now keep using the old address.
Share images made on phones are now smaller, cutting upload time by about 30% (they look almost the same on X and other social media).
For Niconico videos whose uploader name is unavailable (deleted or private accounts, re-uploads and so on), the producer name is now filled in automatically from VocaDB.
VocaDB artist names no longer include labels or channels, so they read cleanly, e.g. “kz feat. Hatsune Miku”.
When a track’s title and artist share one line, the artist no longer drops awkwardly onto the next line.
VocaDB searches are now less likely to time out when traffic is heavy, and songs that have been searched once come up quickly afterwards thanks to caching.

TRACKMENTO moved to its own domain, trackmento.com. Opening the old address forwards you automatically and brings your grid along.
The track list can now be shown three ways: “Beside the grid”, “On the covers” or “Hidden”. “On the covers” puts the track info in white text along the bottom of each cover.
With fewer tracks, the title and artist now sit on one line with the artist aligned to the right, leaving less empty space and making the text larger and easier to read.

In the English interface, iTunes titles and artists are shown as listed on the US store (e.g. “Marigold / Aimyon”).
“Clear all cells” now asks for confirmation first, and you can still bring everything back with “Undo” afterwards.
The track list now uses the full height of the image so the text can be larger.

September 16, 2026

You can now search VocaDB, the Vocaloid song database. It finds songs that aren’t on streaming services, with original songs ranked near the top.
Added “Everyone’s grids”. Only grids you tick to list when sharing can be found and viewed by others, by track or artist.
Added “Enlarge” (full screen). Grids with many cells or long, narrow layouts can be opened to fill the screen for easier rearranging.
Pasting a Bandcamp album URL now adds each of its tracks to the grid in one go.
Color palettes now come in sets of eight and switch the background of the whole interface too, including the dark “Night” palette.
Sharing now shows an upload progress bar, and you can cancel partway through.
Moved “Clear all cells” to a spot that’s harder to tap by mistake, and made it possible to undo.
Long titles now wrap onto up to three lines, so they are cut off with “…” less often.
In grids one to three cells wide, each title now sits right beside its cell in the same order, so it’s easy to see which cover is which song.
The finished image is now previewed and saved directly on your device, so saving is less likely to fail on an unstable connection.

Added color palettes. You can make your own and share it by copying its color codes.
Track titles on share pages now link to their original pages (YouTube, Niconico, Bandcamp and so on).
Share images and share pages are now kept for 30 days instead of 7.
The track list now shows the title and artist on two lines. With many tracks it adds columns automatically to keep the text large.
For near-square ratios with many tracks, the track list now wraps around the grid so the covers can be as large as possible.
Very long, narrow layouts such as 1×8 or 32×1 now fit the cells and titles neatly.
Adding “?lang=en” or “?lang=ja” to a URL now sets the display language.
To prevent accidental changes on phones, sliders (margin, cell spacing, color and so on) now move only when you drag the handle.

Long titles now wrap onto two lines so the artist name that follows is no longer cut off or lost.
With many tracks, the track list can now flow continuously like running text to fit neatly in the image.

You can now load a whole playlist from its URL (Niconico mylists, SoundCloud, bilibili, Spotify, Bandcamp and YouTube; up to 500 tracks).
Deleted videos in a playlist now get their proper title and thumbnail restored automatically from otoDB, the otomad database.
“Paste a page URL” now accepts several URLs at once, one per line.
Added support for Apple Music URLs (songs, albums and playlists).
Grids can now have up to 256 cells, so you can make 16×16 or any tall or wide layout.
The interface can now be switched to English with the button at the top right. Share pages follow the viewer’s browser language.

Share images are now made on your device (in the browser), so making them is less likely to stall when traffic is heavy.
The default image ratio is now 16:9, which suits X (formerly Twitter). 4:5 for Instagram posts is also available.
Custom colors now have hue, saturation and brightness sliders for fine-tuning.
Share pages now show when they will expire.

TRACKMENTO launched. Search iTunes, MusicBrainz, Discogs and otoDB, or paste URLs from Bandcamp, SoundCloud, YouTube, Niconico, bilibili and Spotify. For tracks without a cover, you can upload an image yourself.

Known problems

Old Niconico videos: the source only has low-resolution images, so their covers may look blurry.
Covers of deleted videos: deleted videos that aren’t registered on otoDB can’t have their thumbnail or other details restored.
Special characters: titles with some unusual symbols (such as ◈) may be placed slightly differently in the image depending on your device and fonts.
In-app browsers: in the browsers built into X, LINE and similar apps, sharing may be slow or fail. Reopening the page in a regular browser such as Safari or Chrome is more reliable.

If something doesn’t work

The page won’t open: switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or try another browser. School or work networks may temporarily block newly registered domains with security filters.
Sharing takes a long time: upload speed depends on your connection. Please try somewhere with good reception.
Still not solved: please tell us through the contact form, with the date and time, your device and browser, and what you were doing.
